El pueblo de Chidambaram está situado en el distrito este de Cuddalore encarando la Bahía de Bengala. El pueblo está en el Valle del Río Coleroon en el sistema de carretera y ferrocarril entre Madras y Thanjavur.Descripción: Chidambaram también conocido como Thillai, fue nombrado por la selva de mangle llamada Tillai. Pero hoy tiene el nombre de Chidambaram que significa un ambiente lleno de inteligencia y sabiduría. Según leyenda este es el sitio donde Señor Shiva interpretó su famoso baile cósmico en la forma de Señor Nataraja. Señor Shiva está rezado aquí como el que no tiene forma, el que cubre al universo entero. El baile de alegría, o el Ananda Tandavam de Shiva se dice que simboliza los cinco actas divinos ("Pancha Krityas") - creación, sustentación, disolución, ocultación y obsequio de gracia. El baile de Shiva ha sido captado en metal y rezado en Nataraja Sabhas, en casi todos los templos Saivitos en Tamil Nadu.El sitio, donde según leyenda el Señor representó el baile, más tarde se convirtió en una sala de baile y luego cubierto con chapas de oro por Jatavarman Sundra Pandya (AD 1251-1272). Chidambaram also known as Thillai, was named after the mangrove forest of the name Tillai. But now it has gained the Chdmabaram meaning an atmosphere reigning with intelligence and wisdom. As the legend goes this is the place where Lord Shiva performed his famous cosmic dance in the form of Lord Nataraja. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as the formless, the one who covers the whole universe. The dance of bliss, or the Ananda Tandavam of Shiva is said to symbolize the five divine acts ("Pancha Krityas") - creation, sustenance, dissolution, concealment and bestowment of grace. The dance of Shiva has been frozen in metal and held in worship in Nataraja Sabhas, in virtually all of the Saivite temples in Tamil Nadu. \r\nThe place, where the legend says that the Lord performed the dance, was later converted into a hall of dance and later covered with gold plates by Jatavarman Sundra Pandya (AD 1251-1272). The Thai Poosam day is celebrated the day of the cosmic dance till date at Chidambaram. The Annual Nrityanjali festival is also organised at Chidambaram. \r\n
